About EPE
Engineering solutions that work in the real world.
EPE — Ecological & Practical Engineering — was founded to help New Zealand farm owners navigate the practical side of building more self-sustaining operations. Not technology for its own sake. Solutions that make a difference.

Operating across Aotearoa New Zealand
Founded on a simple observation.
A lot of the technology reaching the agricultural sector is designed for large corporate operations in very different climates, or is marketed by vendors who have never spent time on a working New Zealand farm.
EPE was founded to change that. We bring together expertise in renewable energy systems, water infrastructure, and farm monitoring technology — and apply it through the lens of practical, Aotearoa-specific experience.
We work with farm owners and landowners who are serious about building more resilient operations — people who want solutions they can understand, maintain, and depend on for years to come.
Who we work with.
Our clients range from sheep and beef farms exploring solar and water storage infrastructure, to dairy operations implementing real-time monitoring systems, to landowners developing rural land holdings with a focus on long-term productivity and lower operating costs.
We also work with project partners — including engineering consultants, rural banks, and land development firms — who need a specialist voice on AgriTech feasibility and implementation.
Our Values
What guides our decisions.
Practical first
Every solution we recommend must pass one test: does it genuinely work for this farm, in these conditions, with the people who will maintain it? We do not chase novelty.
Local knowledge
New Zealand farming has its own rhythms, regulations, and challenges. Our team has operated in the rural sector long enough to understand what actually matters on the ground.
Honest assessment
We tell you when a technology is not right for your situation — and why. That honesty is the foundation of the long-term relationships we aim to build.
Enduring solutions
We design for a ten-year horizon, not a two-year technology cycle. The infrastructure we specify is chosen for durability, maintainability, and ongoing value.
How We Work
A clear, structured process.
Assess
We start by understanding your operation in full — the land, the infrastructure, the current costs, the goals. A thorough assessment shapes everything that follows.
Design
We design a solution specific to your situation, working through the options with you, explaining the tradeoffs, and landing on an approach that makes practical and financial sense.
Implement
We manage installation with qualified contractors and take responsibility for the outcome. You should not need to coordinate between multiple parties or chase progress.
Support
After installation, we remain available for system checks, performance monitoring, and any adjustments the operation needs as it evolves over time.
